Experimental Study on the Compressive Behaviors of Brick Masonry Strengthened with Modified Oyster Shell Ash Mortar

Masonry bricks were widely used in construction of the walls most Chinese historical buildings. The low strength lime–clay mortar existing brick masonry has usually led to poor performance such as cracking and collapse during earthquakes. As composition modified oyster shell ash (MOSA mortar) with higher is similar that mortar, it can be partially replace original for buildings order improve their seismic performance. Previous research proven this strengthening method effective improving shear strength. In paper, we present further experimental regarding compressive behaviors strengthened by replacing a MOSA mortar. test results showed specimens proposed meets design requirements. formula calculating was obtained fitting results. calculated values consistent tested ones. addition, stress–strain relationship under axial compression simulated using parabolic model.
